Bhutan Tour 2014 Information

Tiger's-Nest

Where is Bhutan?

The Kingdom of Bhutan is nestled in the Eastern Himalayas bounded to the North by Tibet and to the south, east and west by India. It is a small landlocked country about the size of Vermont & New Hampshire combined, but with a population of only around 700,000. Bhutan is perhaps the most mysterious and diverse of all the Himalayan kingdoms, where for centuries a traditional Buddhist culture has thrived in isolation from the rest of the world, only opening its doors to the outside in 1961. It is a land of contrast – with lush forested valleys, fortified monasteries, sacred mountains, art and architecture unique to the region.

Bhutan has inspired my imagination for years and I’m so pleased to be able to explore this beautiful country and share the experience with you!

The Tour

Our one week tour will take us to several towns including Paro, Thimphu, Wangdu Phodrang, Lobesa and Punakha, all known for their various fortresses, monasteries, museums and outdoor markets. We’ll drive across high passes with views of the magnificent eastern Himalayas and explore glacial valleys.

We’ll also explore the astonishing Paro Taktsang, also knows as Tiger’s Nest, a sacred temple clinging precariously to the side of a 900m/3000ft cliff with history dating back to the 8th century. This will truly be a highlight of this wonderful adventure.

Although this Bhutan trip is a fully guided journey, I’ve built in plenty of free time to explore our destinations on your own.

While I encourage photographers to join us, this tour will not contain a photography workshop. This will be a sightseeing and cultural tour with a focus on the history of this magnificent country and a detailed look at its natural beauty and modern ways of life.
